Middlesex Over 50's/60's League
11 October 2026
On another day
On another day the results may have been different, but it was always going to be a tough test especially for the Over 50's having just the bare minimum of six players available due to non-availability and injuries.
The Over 50's, with just six players, were then reduced to five half way through the session when Pete Cooper having to go off with an Achilles injury. Their first game was against London Irish and although the guys gave them a good game it ended in a 2-1 defeat. Next up was Uxbridge and with most of the possesion managed to lose 1-0. How we will never know!
Watford were next up and these games are always a tight affair but again it eneded in a 2-0 defeat, even though in the second half a perfectly good goal was disallowed and a missed penalty from top scorer Jim Holmes who was making a cameo appearance in place of the injured Cooper. Bounds Green were the final opponents and a well deserved win with goals from Nick Brand and another cameo apperance from Dave Turner aka Luther. 2-0 the final score.
Special mention to Paul Carmichael, making his debut in the league who put in a good shift.
Squad: Dave Bradbury, Matt Tomes, Paul Carmichael, Paul Lowe, Nick Brand, Pete Cooper
The Over 60's did have the luxury of seven players, and it gave us an opportunity to give Keith Glascoe, a new recruit, to make his debut in tournament walking football and he settled in well on the left of midfield.
The games in this league are always tight affairs and the first game ended in a 1-0 loss to Uxbridge. Next up were Ealing Lammas and two goals from top striker Jim Holmes and Mike Oakley gave us a well deserved win. London Irish who are topping the table at present were next and a hard fought 0-0 draw was the result. The last game was against Pimlico and with tiring legs it was always going to be difficult, but we created a host of chances without converting and Paul Bagley, superb in goal as always, kept the score to 0-0 with a penalty save. 0-0 the final score.
Squad: Paul Bagley, Mike Oakley, Mike Parkes, Mark Bagley, Dave Turner, Jim Holmes, Keith Glascoe.
