Thames Valley WFL Update

28 July 2026
Update from the AGM

On Wednesday 22nd July the Thames Valley WFL held their AGM at the National Sports Centre, Bisham Abbey and a representative from our club attended.

The meeting started with a report from the Chairperson Holly Lovell, followed by the Secretary, Malcolm Wilson and the Referee Secretary, Anthony Smith.

It was noted that some referee's are not prepared to referee the Over 50's as the lack of respect and discipline as become quite severe.  This doesn't apply to our club, as we only participate in the Over 65's and in September the Over 70's, but nevertheless an interesting fact!

With regard our teams, the good news is that our Over 65's won't be relegated from Division 1 as feared, as two teams have dropped out including Abingdon, who to be fair were quite agressive in their games.

As a result, at the minute the format for the Over 65's league is unclear as to whether we will have three divisions of six teams (five games per session) or four division of five teams (four games per session).

Our second team will then be either in the third or fourth division. It is also possible due to pitch availability, that instead of Tuesday's it may move to the third Thursday in the month. Watch this space.

History will be made when our first ever Over 70's team, compete from September in the TVWFL on the first Thursday in the month.

Other points of interest are that TVWFL have voted to continue to play three touch and use a size 4 ball.

The TVWFL Cup which is normally played during July will not take place next year, as there are many competitions and festivals taking place during July, including the FA WF Cup and the WFA National Cup and teams are finding it hard to field a strong squad.

No other real points of interest were raised.
